McDonald’s Advertising on Instagram – A Letter

In Marketing

McDonald's Instagram Full Ad
McDonald’s has been taking a beating on social media platforms for running their ads on Instagram.

When I first saw the story on AdWeek, I thought, “Uh oh, did they do something offensive?! Is there a fun scandal?”

The answer: Nope, they were just ads being run on Instagram.

Check out the full story on AdWeek and for those of you who have a problem with McDonald’s (or anyone else for that matter) running ads on your social platforms, here is my letter to you:

Dear Crybabies whining because there’s a McDonald’s ad in your instagram feed:

It’s Ryan, at Espresso Digital, I just wanted to write to you to let you know that we (the world – yes, I’m going to go so far as to speak for the whole world here) and we wanted to respond to this crisis immediately. Here is our message:

Get over it. Seriously.

Advertising pays for these platforms. It’s how it works, it’s how they stay free. If you don’t like the McDonald’s ad on your social media, or anyone else’s ad on your platform, here’s an idea:

Freaking ignore it!!

There are much bigger problems in this world than the fact that you saw a delicious burger while taking a selfie as you did absolutely nothing important but wanted to be liked for it anyway. Ads on social media should really be a non issue.

In fact, without those ads, you would have to pay for these social media platforms. They wouldn’t be able to expand and develop the way they currently can, and in many cases, they wouldn’t be able to get off the ground, because I doubt even you would pay the price of all these apps just so you can flood the world with your inane dribble.

So here’s a thought, instead of whining like a bunch of spoiled 3 year olds, lets try a different set of words.

THANK YOU.

C’mon, say it with me. Thaaaaannnnkkk Yooooouuuu.

Thank you for advertising on Instagram and showing me your delicious burgers McDonalds. And thank you Instagram for staying free and helping to personalize the web to my desires.

Thank you advertisers.

You can do it. It’s not hard.

And once you finish tucking your proverbial tail between your legs, you entitled twits, it’s time to get over yourselves and get on with your boring lives.

Or……I suppose you could pay each time you use Instagram/Twitter/Facebook or anything else online……anybody?……Anybody?!

Nope, then you get to see the ads.

Now stop whining and go #DoGoodWork
